Keane killer in court bid to retrieve jewellery
A VICIOUS criminal who shot Limerick crime boss Kieran Keane in the back of the head has accused gardai of taking his jewellery. David 'Frog Eyes' Stanners (33), of Pine View Gardens, Moyross, who is currently serving a life sentence for the January 29, 2003 murder of Kieran Keane, yesterday made an application to the District Court to have the items he claimed were taken from him during the investigation returned. Stanners - one of five men convicted for the gangland hit on Keane - told Limerick District Court he wanted his jewellery back and that gardai could either burn or give to charity other items allegedly taken during the investigation. His solicitor, Aeneas McCarthy, said his client believes a statement exists in boxes of case evidence which confirmed gardai had taken the jewellery. Judge Tom O'Donnell adjourned the matter to April 20 and said Stanners and gardai should search the boxes of case evidence to see if there is a statement backing up the claim that they seized his jewellery.
